LGL Event Series Vol. 2: Building New Connections Beyond Differences

上智大学直営寮（枝川寮・祖師谷国際交流会館・アルペ国際学生寮）は、国籍、宗教、文化等、多様なバックグラウンドを持つ学生たちが暮らす教育寮です。

学生同士の交流と異文化理解を深める多文化交流イベント。直営寮では各寮のLGLが趣向を凝らした企画を実施しています。今回はLGL企画紹介第2弾として、その様子をお届けします。

Sophia dormitories (Edagawa Men’s Dormitory, Soshigaya International House, and Arrupe International Residence) are educational dormitories where students from diverse backgrounds live and spend time together.

Cultural exchange events provide opportunities for students to connect with one another and deepen their intercultural understanding. Across Sophia Dormitories, LGLs organize a variety of creative programs to bring residents together. In this second installment of our LGL Event Series, we take a look at some of these activities and the connections they helped create.

In LGL Event Series Vol. 1, we took a look at the “Tour Day” programs organized by Edagawa Dormitory and Soshigaya International House. We hope you’ll enjoy reading it as well.

アルペ国際学生寮では、参加者が自国の料理やお菓子を持ち寄る「Cultural Potluck」を開催し、食を通じた文化交流を行いました。

寮生たちは、麻辣湯スープやエジプトのスナック菓子、ハワイのクッキー、インドのタンドリーチキン、おせんべいなどを持ち寄りました。普段なかなか味わう機会のない料理やお菓子を囲みながら、それぞれの文化について語り合い、楽しいひとときを過ごしました。

食事を楽しみながら、さまざまなゲーム企画も実施されました。定番の人生ゲームをはじめとするボードゲームのほか、中国の伝統的な遊びである羽根蹴り「毽子（ジェンズ）」にも挑戦。パスをつなぎ続けるのは簡単ではありませんでしたが、言葉の壁を越えて協力しながらプレーし、大いに盛り上がりました。

At Arrupe International Residence, residents gathered for a Cultural Potluck, bringing dishes and snacks from their home countries and sharing their cultures through food.

Residents brought a wide variety of items, including Chinese malatang soup, Egyptian snacks, Hawaiian cookies, Indian tandoori chicken, and Japanese rice crackers. While enjoying foods and treats they do not normally have the chance to try, residents shared stories about their cultures and spent an enjoyable time together.

In addition to the meal, a variety of games and activities were organized. Alongside popular board games such as The Game of Life, residents also tried Jianzi, a traditional Chinese shuttlecock game. Although keeping the shuttlecock in the air was not easy, participants worked together across language barriers and had a great time.

祖師谷国際交流会館では、留学生の「日本語を学びたい」という思いと、日本人学生の「外国語を学びたい」という思いから、気軽に複数の言語を使いながら実践的に学ぶ場として「Language Exchange」企画を実施しました。

LGLは、カフェで会話を楽しむようなリラックスした雰囲気で参加できるよう工夫を凝らしました。その結果、寮生たちは話す言語を自由に選び、簡単なゲームや食事を楽しみながら、それぞれが挑戦してみたい言語での会話を楽しみました。

祖師谷国際交流会館は最も多くの寮生が暮らしており、非常に多様な国・地域の学生が集まっています。その中で、学生たち自らがお互いの言語を学び合う機会を企画し、多くの参加者が集って積極的に交流を深めていた姿が印象的でした。

At Soshigaya International House, a Language Exchange event was organized in response to international students’ desire to learn Japanese and Japanese students’ interest in learning foreign languages. The event provided a casual and welcoming space where residents could practice and learn together while freely using a variety of languages.

To create a relaxed atmosphere similar to chatting at a café, the LGLs thoughtfully incorporated simple games and refreshments into the program. Residents freely chose which languages to use and enjoyed conversations while taking on the challenge of communicating in languages they wanted to practice.

Soshigaya International House is home to the largest and most diverse resident community among Sophia’s dormitories. It was especially inspiring to see students themselves take the initiative to create opportunities for language learning, with many residents joining the event and actively connecting with one another across cultures.

どちらの企画も、寮生同士が交流を深め、お互いの文化や価値観への理解を広げるきっかけとなりました。言語や文化の違いを越えてつながりを築けるのは、国際寮ならではの魅力です。これからも多くの出会いや経験を通して、実りある寮生活を送ってください。

直営寮ではこのような学生同士の主体的な交流を大切にし、様々な行事を実施しています。今後も様々な取り組みやイベントの様子を発信していきますので、ぜひお楽しみに。

Both programs provided valuable opportunities for residents to deepen their connections and broaden their understanding of one another’s cultures and perspectives. Building friendships across linguistic and cultural differences is one of the unique strengths of living in an international dormitory community. We hope that, through the many encounters and experiences ahead, you will continue to enjoy a fulfilling and rewarding dormitory life.
