A Look Back at SSIC’s Student Integration Programs – January 2026

SSIC（Sophia Student Integration Commons）は、11号館1階に位置する、学生同士のコミュニケーションを促進することを目的とした交流スペースです。学生センターが運営しており、留学生と日本人学生の交流を支援する様々なプログラムを実施しています。

SSIC (Sophia Student Integration Commons) is a student exchange space located on the first floor of Building 11. It was established to promote communication and interaction among students. Operated by the Center for Student Affairs, SSIC offers various programs designed to foster connections between international and Japanese students.

日本のお正月、何をする？

1月の上智大学は、お正月ムードと試験期間でにぎやか。そしてSSICでは、今年も学生交流イベント「Student Integration Program」を開催しました！

今回は、2026年のはじまりを飾った3つのイベントを一気に紹介します。

What to Do for the Japanese New Year?

January at Sophia University is always full of energy – with New Year celebrations, final exams, and of course, SSIC’s Student Integration Programs!

Here’s a recap of the three cultural events that kicked off 2026 and brought students together.

① 1月8日（木）新年餅つき大会

2026年最初のイベントは、SSIC恒例の「新年餅つき大会」！

電動餅つき機でつきたてのおもちを味わえるだけでなく、
しょうゆ・きなこ・しょうゆ砂糖の3種類の味を楽しめる、バリエーション豊富な提供となりました。 さらに、臼と杵を使った昔ながらの本格もちつき体験もでき、多くの学生でにぎわい

① Thursday, January 8 – New Year Mochi-tsuki

The very first SSIC event of 2025 was the lively New Year Mochi-tsuki (rice cake pounding)at SSIC!
Students enjoyed freshly made mochi prepared with an electric mochi maker,
and three different flavors was offered -soy sauce, soybean powder, and soy sauce with sugar—giving everyone plenty of variety to try.

Students also had the chance to experience traditional mochi pounding using a wooden mallet and mortar.
Cultural displays introduced New Year traditions and fun mochi facts, making it a delicious and engaging start to the year.

② 1月10日（土）初春歌舞伎鑑賞ツアー

続いて行われたのは、日本の伝統芸能を体感する人気イベント、「初春歌舞伎鑑賞ツアー」です。

午前中はSSICで歌舞伎の歴史や見どころを学ぶ事前講義からスタート。
昼食では参加者同士が舞台への期待を語り、午後には新国立劇場で迫力満点の初春歌舞伎を鑑賞しました。く観劇できたという感想が多く寄せられました。

② Saturday, January 10 – New Year Kabuki Viewing Tour

Next was the New Year Kabuki Viewing Tour, a popular event where students experienced one of Japan’s traditional performing arts.

The day began with a morning lecture at SSIC covering Kabuki’s history and key highlights.
Over lunch, participants chatted excitedly about the upcoming show, and in the afternoon, the group headed to the New National Theatre, Tokyo to enjoy a vibrant New Year Kabuki performance.

③ 1月31日（土）能楽鑑賞ツアー

1月の締めくくりは、ユネスコ無形文化遺産・能楽を鑑賞するツアー。

国立能楽堂では、公演前に能の基礎を学ぶ講義を実施。昼食では展示スペースの見学も楽しみつつ、参加者同士で感想をシェア。
鑑賞後の振り返りでは、「理解が深まった」「もっと学びたくなった」といった声が多く上がりました。

③ Saturday, January 31 – Noh Viewing Tour

The final event of January was Noh Viewing Tour, exploring this UNESCO-recognized traditional art.

At the National Noh Theatre, students attended a pre-performance lecture covering the basics of Noh. They also enjoyed lunch in the theatre cafeteria, visited the exhibition area, and exchanged thoughts with fellow participants.
After the performance, everyone gathered again to reflect and deepen their appreciation of Noh and Kyogen.

今回紹介したのは、2026年１月に開催された学生インテグレーション・プログラム。文化体験から学生同士の交流まで、多くの「出会い」と「発見」が生まれた一か月でした。

These three events were SSIC’s January lineup! From hands‑on cultural activities to immersive performing arts tours, SSIC continues to create spaces where students can discover Japan, connect with each other, and make lasting memories.
