上智・学生チャレンジ支援金採択企画！「SDGs x イノベーションスパーカー」が10月に開催されます。 SDGs x Innovation Sparker Event in the Making by the Winners of the Sophia Student Challenge Support Grant

大学の中と外で、いまおきているあれこれを紹介する「上智のいまを発見」。今回は、「2021年度（2022年度企画実施）上智・学生チャレンジ支援金制度」採択企画を紹介します。企画実施団体であるUniversity Innovation Fellows Sophiaに記事を寄稿いただきました。

上智大学を持続可能なキャンパスにするために！

「SDGs x イノベーションスパーカー」は、上智大学の学生団体 University Innovation Fellows Sophiaが10月29日と30日に開催するバイリンガルイベントです。このイベントは、「上智・学生チャレンジ支援金制度」を受け実施します。上智学生や教職員のサステナビリティへのアクションを促すことを目的としています。ゲストスピーカーによる講演やデザイン思考ワークショップ、上智大学をより持続可能なキャンパスにするためのチャレンジに焦点を当てたアイデアコンテストなど、学生・教職員が一つのコミュニティとしてイノベーションを起こすためのイベントです。

UIF Sophiaについて

UIF Sophiaは、スタンフォード大学ハッソ・プラットナー・デザイン研究所（d.school）でデザイン思考のトレーニングを受けた上智大生・教員によって構成されています。世界65の高等教育機関から251名の学生がこの研修を修了し、日本からは上智大学UIFが初めてフェローとして公式認定されました。

UIF Sophiaでは、若者のエンパワーメントと学生や様々なアクターとのコラボレーションを促進することが、持続可能で平和、かつ公正な社会を実現するための革新的な解決策の鍵となると信じています。そのために、上智学生団体KASA Sustainability、TEDx Seisen International School、麗澤大学学生グループなど、大学内外の団体と連携し、ワークショップの作成や運営、イベントの企画などを積極的に行っています。

なぜこのイベントなのか？

私たちは「捨てる」文化の中で生きています。着ている服から使っている容器に至るまで、私たちの多くは短期間使っただけでその品物を捨ててしまいます。この「取る・作る・捨てる」という直線的な習慣は、今日、世界中で多くの問題を引き起こしています。例えば、プラスチックのゴミは、大地や海を汚染し、さまざまな動物の生命を危険にさらしています（※1）。電子機器から出るゴミは、有害な化学物質を放出して環境を汚染します（※２）。生ゴミも有害な温室効果ガスを発生させ、気候変動の問題を悪化させます（※３）。その中で、「ゼロ・ウェイスト運動」は世界中で急速に広まっています。現代社会の問題である「持続不可能」な生産と消費のパターンを打破する方法として、ますます多くの人々が「ゼロ・ウェイストなライフスタイル」を選択しています。 UIF Sophiaでは、次のような問いかけをしました……

• この「循環型社会」と「ゼロ・ウェイスト」の考え方を、上智大学で実践してみたら？
• 上智大学で発生する廃棄物を減らすだけでなく、ゼロにすることができたら？

上智大学をより持続可能なキャンパスにするという課題に対して、ステークホルダー間の革新的なコラボレーションを喚起したいという思いから、2022年10月に「SDGs x イノベーションスパーカー」を開催します。これはSDGsのフレームワークにデザイン思考の考え方やスキルを適用し、解決策を議論・共創するイベントです。当イベントで対象とする主なSDGsは以下の通りです。

Towards a sustainable university campus!

The SDGs x Innovation Sparker Event is a bilingual event that will be hosted by Sophia University’s student organization University Innovation Fellows Sophia on October 29th-30th. Upon winning the Sophia Student Challenge Support Grant aimed at encouraging students to partake in more actions towards sustainability, UIF Sophia is utilizing the granted funds to host an event that sparks innovative collaboration among the university community by engaging them in keynote speeches, a Design Thinking workshop, and a competition focusing on the challenge of making Sophia University a more sustainable campus.

What is UIF Sophia?

UIF Sophia is a group of students and faculty at Sophia University who received design thinking training from Stanford University’s Hasso Plattner Institute of Design (d.school). They are among 251 students from 65 higher education institutions around the world to have successfully completed this training and the first students from Japan to have become University Innovation Fellows.

At UIF Sophia, we believe that empowering youth and fostering collaboration between students and different actors are key to driving innovative solutions for creating sustainable, peaceful, and just societies. In order to do so, we have actively created and led workshops, organized events, and collaborated with organizations both within and outside of Sophia University such as KASA Sustainability, TEDx Seisen International School, and a student group at Reitaku University.

Why this event?

Our world today is dominated by a ‘throw-away’ culture. From the clothes we wear to the containers we use, many of these items are thrown away after using them for just a short period of time. This linear practice of ‘take-make-waste’ is causing a multitude of problems around the world today, such as plastic waste(※1), toxic pollution(※2), and biodiversity loss(※3) to name a few. Fortunately, The Zero Waste movement has been spreading rapidly throughout the world. As such, more and more people are adopting “zero waste lifestyles” as a way to break the unsustainable production and consumption patterns that characterize modern society. Our team at University Innovation Fellows Sophia started to ask ourselves……

• What if we applied the concepts of circularity and zero waste to the context of Sophia University?
• What if we not only reduced but, more importantly, entirely eliminated the waste that we produce on campus?

In our desire to spark innovative collaboration among stakeholders on the challenge of making Sophia University a more sustainable campus, we are hosting the SDGs x Innovation Sparker in October. This is an event that brings together the university community to discuss and co-create solutions by applying the design thinking mindset and skills to the SDGs framework. The main SDGs that we will target in our event are:

イベントで取り扱うデザイン・チャレンジは次の通りです。
「四谷キャンパスで資源を循環させ、「ゴミ」を無くすにはどうしたらよいか？」

本イベントでは以下の三つで構成されます。

1. ゲストスピーカーによる循環型社会やゼロ・ウェイストをテーマとした講演
2. キャンパス循環をテーマに、上智大学でどのようにゼロ・ウェイストを達成できるかを探るデザイン思考ワークショップ
3. 参加者が自分たちのアイデアや解決策を審査員の前で発表するためのコンペティション

優勝チームは、キャンパス内でアイデアを実現できるよう、UIF Sophiaから全面的な支援を受け、賞状が授与されます。循環型モデルを探り、上智大学に革新的な解決策をもたらすために、ぜひこのイベント（使用言語：29日は英語、30日は日本語）にご参加ください！　10月上旬より申し込みフォームを公開します。

The following design challenge will be proposed in the event:
“How might we circulate resources and prevent waste from being generated on Yotsuya Campus?”

The event will consist of the following:

1. A keynote speech on the theme of circularity
2. A Design Thinking workshop based on campus circularity during which participants brainstorm solutions to the waste problems they face on campus
3. A competition where participants will pitch their ideas before a panel of judges

The winning proposals will receive full support from UIF Sophia to ensure the successful execution and implementation of their idea on campus, certificates, and more. Join us in exploring circularity and bringing innovative solutions to Sophia University!　Registrations open from early October!
