Enjoying Noh Tour!
矢来能楽堂を見学しよう

2月5日（水）に、神楽坂の矢来能楽堂の見学・体験を含むEnjoying Noh Tourを開催しました。まずは腹ごしらえ。神楽坂の鳥茶屋で美味しい親子丼をいただきました。

昼食後は神楽坂散歩。風情のある石畳の道を歩いて熱海湯、毘沙門天、赤城神社などを見学しました。

On Wednesday 5 February, an Enjoying Noh Tour was held, including a tour and experience of the Yarai Noh Theater in Kagurazaka.We started with lunch. We had a nice oyakodon at Tori Chaya in Kagurazaka.

After lunch, everyone took a walk around Kagurazaka. We walked along the cobbled streets to visit Atami Yu, Bishamonten and Akagi Shrine.

いよいよ能体験です。矢来能楽堂では奥川恒治先生の解説で能楽のいろはを学びます。衣装や面の説明の後、「海女」という演目の一部を見せていただきました。一瞬にして能舞台は海の中となります。
その後、足袋を履いて舞台の上へ。足の運びの難しさを知りました。

Finally, it’s time to experience Noh. At the Yarai Noh Theater, learn the basics of Noh with commentary by Okugawa Koji. After an explanation of the costumes and masks, we were shown part of a performance called ‘Ama’. In an instant, the Noh stage looked like it was under the sea.
Afterwards, we put on tabi and go onto the stage. I learnt how difficult it is to move my feet!

能楽師になるにはおおそ10年かかるという奥川先生の言葉にはびっくり。美しい身のこなしの陰には、絶え間ない研鑽があるのですね。能の体験や親子丼のみならず、神楽坂の雰囲気に魅了された学生が多かったようです。大学の近くにこんなに風情のあるスポットがあるのかと私も改めて感じた一日でした。

I was surprised to hear Mr Okukawa say that it takes at least 10 years to become a Noh performer. Behind his beautiful body movement, there is constant study. Many students were fascinated not only by the Noh experience and oyakodon, but also by the atmosphere of Kagurazaka. It was a day when I was also reminded of the fact that there are such tasteful spots near the university.
