2025 Spring at SSIC : Part 1

2025年春学期にSSICや学内外で開催された、計9つの学生交流イベントを2回に分けてご紹介します！

During the Spring Semester of 2025, SSIC hosted a total of nine on and off campus Student Integration Programs. This article introduces the first half of those events.

SSICとは？

What is SSIC?

SSIC（Sophia Student Integration Commons）は、11号館1階に位置する、学生同士のコミュニケーションを促進することを目的とした交流スペースです。学生センターが運営しており、留学生と日本人学生の交流を支援する様々なプログラムを実施しています。

SSIC (Sophia Student Integration Commons) is a student exchange space located on the first floor of Building 11. It was established to promote communication and interaction among students. Operated by the Center for Student Affairs, SSIC offers various programs designed to foster connections between international and Japanese students.

What Can You Do at SSIC？

SSICでは、「留学生ともっと交流したい」「日本人学生と友達になりたい」といった学生の声から生まれた Student Integration Program を多数開催しています。

これまでには、華道部・茶道部との共催による「華道体験」「茶道体験」、学外講師を招いた「和紙づくり」や「お茶の淹れ方講座」、キャンパス外での「うどんづくり」「能楽堂見学」、長期休暇を利用した「広島ツアー」など、文化体験を通じた交流イベントを実施してきました。

学生同士の交流がより活性化するような、体験型の企画を今後も提供していきます！

At SSIC, students can participate in the Student Integration Program, which was created in response to student voices such as “I want to interact more with international students!” and “I want to make friends with Japanese students!”

Past events have included cultural experiences like “Ikebana Workshop” and “Tea Ceremony Experience” co-hosted with student clubs, as well as hands-on activities such as “Washi Paper Making,” “How to Brew Japanese Tea,” “Udon Making,” “Noh Theater Tour,” and even a “Hiroshima Tour” during long breaks.
All events are designed to encourage meaningful student interaction through shared experiences.

① 四月：けん玉体験

① April: Kendama Experience

2025年度最初のSSICイベントは、新企画「けん玉体験」でした。
4月22日（火）、社団法人日本けん玉協会の先生方をお招きし、初心者でも楽しめる基本技をみんなで輪になって挑戦しました。中には高度な技を披露する上級者も！
日本の伝統的な遊び「けん玉」を通じて、留学生と日本人学生が文化を共有し、楽しいひとときを過ごしました。

The first SSIC event of 2025 was a brand-new “Kendama Experience.”
Held on Tuesday, April 22, instructors from the Japan Kendama Association guided participants through basic techniques that even beginners could enjoy. Some advanced players also showcased impressive tricks!
Through this traditional Japanese toy, international and Japanese students shared culture and had a fun time together.

② 四月：こどもの日文化体験

② April: Children’s Day Cultural Experience

GW前の4月28日（月）には、「こどもの日文化体験イベント」を開催しました。
狭山市のお茶農園の方をお招きし、急須を使ったお茶の淹れ方を学びながら、こどもの日にちなんだ鯉カステラと柏餅をみんなでいただきました。

参加者からは、

• 「様々な学年や学部の人と交流できた」
• 「外国の方をお茶でもてなすために、急須の使い方をもっと練習したい」
• 「お茶とお菓子を楽しみながら、日本文化について話せた」

など、好評の声が寄せられました

On Monday, April 28, just before Golden Week, SSIC hosted a “Children’s Day Cultural Experience.”
We invited a tea master from Sayama City, Saitama to teach participants how to brew tea using a kyusu (Japanese teapot).
While enjoying koi-shaped castella cakes and kashiwa mochi, students learned about the traditions of Children’s Day.

Feedback from participants included:
“It was great to talk about Japanese culture while enjoying tea and sweets with people from overseas.”
“I was able to interact with students from different years and faculties.”
“I want to keep practicing how to brew tea with a kyusu so I can serve tea to international guests.”

③ 五月：教えて！　弓道

③ May: What’s KYUDO?

5月12日（月）の昼休みには、今学期初の学生団体とのコラボイベント「教えて！弓道」を開催。
体育会弓道部の皆さんに、弓道の魅力や基本的な作法を紹介していただき、ゴム弓の体験も行いました。
日本の武道を留学生中心に紹介する、有意義なイベントとなりました。

参加者からは、

• 「本物の弓と矢を見られて興味深かった」
• 「昼休みの短時間で参加できるのが良かった」

など、再開催を希望する声も多く寄せられました。

On Monday, May 12, during lunch break, SSIC held its first student group collaboration event of the semester: “What’s KYUDO?”
Members of the university’s Kyudo Club introduced the basics and etiquette of Kyudo, Japanese archery, and participants got to try using a rubber bow.
It was a meaningful event that introduced Japanese martial arts to international students.

Participants commented:

• “It was fascinating to see real Japanese bows and arrows.”
• “It was a great event to join during a short lunch break.”
